Pune Cantonment Board




In compliance to the instructions/ advice given during the various conferences of CEO's & DEO's chaired by DGDE/PDDE during last 7-8 years, the Pune Cantonment Board vide CBR no. 5 dated 29.05.2017 resolved to start an Industrial Training Institute in the existing premises of Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Technical High School. Accordingly, an online application was made to the Govt. of Maharashtra requesting to provide sanction to implement the ITI in Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Technical High School. It is notable that the technical high school of Pune Cantonment Board, a renowned vocational training center, has been providing better career prospective to its students since years. The Govt. of Maharashtra vide letter No. ITC-22171PRA.KA.248NYA.SHI-3 dated 10.01.2018 has issued sanction for new ITI in Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Technical High School in five trades.

Further there has been demand of the parents, student, cantonment residents as well as PCB members to start the industrial training institutes (ITI) in Pune cantonment area because there is no such institute like ITI in vicinity of Pune cantonment and students have to travel out of Pune if they didn't get admission in Aundh Government ITI which is run by Govt of Maharashtra. Hence an independent ITI to cater the needs of students in Pune Cantonment and nearby area to acquire skill in different sectors has been felt a most important initiative in Pune Cantonment Board.

The Industrial Training Institutes played a vital role in economic development of the country especially in terms of supplying skilled manpower to industries. Properly trained skilled manpower is the demand of the industry, which is being regularly supplied by hands-on skill training through ITI. Demand for skilled manpower in country would be forthcoming from newly launched schemes of government namely Make in India, Digital India, Smart Cities and Clean India. ITI are ready to take up the new task and would be playing important role for meeting the skilled manpower demand generated through these new schemes. Thus it is appropriate time to impart skill training to the students of Pune Cantonment Board who generally comes from poor and to make them competent to obtain respectful employment opportunities.

Industrial Training Institute (ITI) are training institutes which offer range of vocational/skill training courses covering a large number of economic sectors with an objective to provide skilled workforce to the industry as well as self-employment of youth. They provide post-school technical as well as vocational training courses leading to lifelong career in one or two year skill courses. These institutes are set up under Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India

The training courses have been designed to impart basic skills and knowledge in the trades so as to prepare trainee for employment as a semiskilled worker or for self-employment. National Trade Certificate (NTC) is awarded to successful trainees of NCVT affiliated trades of ITIs. NTC has National/ international recognition for purpose of employment/ self-employment.

Pune Cantonment Board is providing primary and secondary education upto class 12th through its eleven schools situated within the cantonment limits for almost 5000 students, who are generally from economically poor families. Amongst the eleven schools , one high school is providing technical education from Std VIII to X and also runs a special school viz. Zhep Remedial Learning Center for special students. The initiative of Pune cantonment Board to establish an ITI in the existing building of Cantt Board school is a progressive step to impart structural technical training to the residents of Pune Cantonment and it is one of the discretionary function of the Cantt Board under Cantonment Act 2006.

In continuation with this motto of providing education to all and to earn a livelihood, Pune Cantonment Board has decided to start an ITI which will lead to life long career from one or two years skill courses. They also cater the need of skilled work force to nearby manufacturing and service industry. Following Courses have been offered in ITI of Pune Cantonment Board.

The proposal for obtaining sanction for the supply and installation of tools & machineries of ITI at Dr. Ambedkar Memorial High School was sent to the GOC-in-C, Southern Command vide this office letter No. CEE/Eiect/ITI/84/2017-18 dated 31.05.2018 through PDDE, Southern Command. The GOC-in-C vide letter no 100444/Budget/Pune/Q(L) dated 29.08.2018 provided the necessary sanction as required.

The Directorate of Vocational Education Training Govt. of Maharashtra conducted inspection of proposed ITI on 29.06.2018 at Dr. Ambedkar Memorial High School, Pune Cantt and submitted report to the NCVT New Delhi. The Member Secretary Dy. DG (T&E), Ministry of Skill Dev. & Entrepreneurship and his team along with officials of Govt. of Maharashtra visited the ITI workshop and conducted the inspection himself on 31.08.2018. The Affiliation certificate is given on 05.09.2018 at New Delhi by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Hon'ble Minister Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt of India. The first session i.e. 2018 - 2020 is starting on 02.10.2018. Certainly it will begin a new era of boon for the 10th and 12th passed students who could not afford further education due to various personal and financial reasons as well as academic performance.
